Why do some (not all) men not.........?

Why do some (not all) men not.........?

Postby GBeck on Tue Oct 20, 2009 10:24 pm

like to let women play through.

Yesterday, two freinds and I played 18 holes on a municipal course. One lady is 81 and walks the course. She doesn't hit very far, but she is fast. We were behind 4 men who kept looking back at us but never indicated we could play though. There was NO ONE on the next tee box, In fact, the only people in front of them were on the next green and they were women.

This is not the first time this has happened. We stood in the middle of the fairway and watched each one putt out on every hole. We were on the greens, putted out, and headed to our cart and pull cart about the same time they were leaving the tee box.

I did mention it to a Marshall, but he didn't seem too interested in saying anything to them. I am just wondering why they won't step aside. They would have so much more time to fiddle around if they would let other go through.

Again, why?

Well, a couple of things. First, as a threesome you have no "right of passage" through a 4 ball ahead of you. Second, what was the pace of play like? Was the 4 ball playing to an acceptable pace. An average of 15 minutes per hole works out to 4 and a half hour round. Quite respectable on most courses. If the marshall didn't say anything to them, it's safe to assume that he was satisfied with their pace of play. As long as they were moving at the course's posted pace you have nothing to complain about.

A 3 some should have been let thru, male or female...and maybe they kept looking back because your group had some great waggles in your swings.

Just go up and ask to be let through. Tell them that you will be out of the way soon, but be firm. Very few will refuse a direct request.

Because it's a shock to the ego. By playing fast, you must be better than them (not always true, but that's the weird mentality we use), It was definitely not right, not to mention bad-mannered.

Unfortunately, women and junior golfers get lumped into the same group- they aren't "good enough" to the certain percentage of male golfers that pretend they want to be on Tour to be handed the same courtesies they would offer guys of similar caste.

Doesn't the whole argument boil down to the lack of etiquette ? There are too many golfing today who do not have a clue on how to act on a golf course, whether it be a municipal or private tract. We have it at our private club . There should be a condition that all golfers read and understand the rules of golf, especially the first section which covers golf etiquette.
