Which job should I accept: Administrative Assistant in a hospital, or sales assistant in Matalan (retail)?

The admin position pays the same, only slightly more because there is a London regional allowance so it will help pay towards transport. But putting that aside, money isn't the issue. Which would provide me better opportunities? Getting any job is hard right now so I have to settle for something, but which one?

Actually Matalan is a good company to work for, even if your starting at the bottom, they have training incentive schemes and a good policy of employing from within the company so you could move up. The NHS will have you tearing your hair out with red tape and all their nonsense. Having said that look into the pension schemes the public sector usually has more generous ones than the private.

Firstly I think you need to decide whether you want to be in retail sales or office work. Both could offer advancement. I have to say though if it was for myself I would go for the Admin Assistant job, I worked in shoes sales for a while and hated the whole ethos of retail selling. When you have more then one opportunity, it's always best to follow your heart, I think you already know the answer. what place makes you happiest, the surroundings, location, people you work with. If it's only a stepping stone to something bigger, take the job the feels good when you think about it. Good luck
