Whey Protein...How do I use it?

Whey Protein...How do I use it?

Postby Cayylaax on Fri May 01, 2009 9:22 pm

I'm 6'0, 274 and looking to lose weight. I don't look 274 because I'm tall and I think I carry it well (that's what people tell me anyway...anything to make me feel better right?). Anyway, I want to know if whey protein helps with weight loss. If so, how much should I take daily and when should I take it? I've heard I should take it before and after my workout and once during the day...I've heard 90 to 300 grams per day. Can someone clear this up for me?

P.S. I'm a very disciplined workout warrior. I have a treadmill and a bowflex at home and I'm very consistent with my workouts. I do 2 hours of cardio daily (except Sundays) so getting up off my a$$ to workout is never a problem.

Whey Protein...How do I use it?

Calories out Calories in = weight loss.

Whey protein is used mostly for convenience or to meet daily protein requirements more easily, its not a magic solution for weight loss.

It's best trait is that it's speedily digested, so in the mornings or post workout its very good, but for any other time it's best to consume protein from whole sources, shake only diets aren't good for you at all.

To lose weight i recommend creating a 500 calorie deficit per day which should amount to a pound or so of fat lost per week.

Good luck.

I've tried a few different brands and notihng beats the one I'm on now, it's called VP2...made in the USA. I take one scoop about half an hour before and one scoop straight after, mixed with around 400mL of water. You can really feel this stuff working, especially if you're a swimmer, maybe even cardio. If you do two hours straight, you could try having some half way through haha, just experiment and see what suits you better and gives you energy at the right time.

I think you'd be safe going with any better, more expensive brand of whey protein isolate, not the concentrate. You know they usually say lean muscle gain, or low carbs etc.

It also mentions on the tub, 'not to be used as a meal replacement', but you will notice that you don't eat as much to recover your energy or muscles etc. Good luck champ!
