when i go fishing, i dont go expecting to catch anything?

Postby Allistar on Tue Oct 20, 2009 8:41 pm

i hardly catch anything, but really, its more to relax from the stress and problems i might encounter. im just drinking beer( and occasionally smoking weed) while on the bank of a pond, lake, or canal. i don't care if i catch nothing, its fun to get away. is there anything wrong with this?

no, but alittle more effort in the catching department would help. when i'm all stoned, catching fish is much much better then a no fish buzz

No problem with this at all. I actually go fishing with that same mind set all the time. I still focus but don't get my hopes up and usually do pretty good. My main thing is to relax and enjoy the outdoors but keeping a positive attitude always help with catching fish. You know how dogs can smell fear on humans, I think bass can detect bad vibes and negativity from anglers. I don't drink when I fish but use to toke when I was younger while fishing and that was fun until I got a treble hook in my calf muscle. I heard the legend Rick Clunn once talk about positive attitude when fishing. He said when he use to guide he had 3 clients once and 2 were catching bass while the third guy was in a bad mood, couldn't cast right and was complaining the whole time. Clunn said he even would cast out for the guy and he still came up with nothing. He strongly believed that his attitude was the reason why he caught no fish while his 2 friends had a great time and put numbers in the boat. So keep up what your doing, if its your way to unwind that is good and your doing nothing wrong. You could be in a bar drowning in whiskey or dropping the mortgage payment on an online poker site so hanging out and relaxing with a fishing pole is alright with me.

no, not really, what's wrong is you know you haven't studied fishing so you aren't expecting any gratification and success. I mean why anyone would want to set themselves up for disappointments is beyond me. The simple truth though is that if you wanted to catch fish, you know all you would have to do is read about each specie you want to get really good at catching, right? I mean it can't be easier than checking out books at the library and you know that. What is kind of scary though is that you know that you could get really good at it. And then what? Since drinking and smoking doesn't degrade your citizenship or give you the inability to face up to the fact that you and your buddies just aren't ready for any commitments yet. You need to wait and think about all there is in life that is waving goodbye and leaving you right where you want to be as it passes you by, and that takes a lot out of a guy huh? Yeah, but no, there isn't anything wrong with it.

Nothing at all my friend. It really makes me laugh when my neighbor comes home from a trip and he complains about WHAT THE FUCK! DIDN"T CATCH A SINGLE DAMN FISH! It's not called catching.

I bass fish very seriously, but when I'm catfishing I do exactly what you do (except for the beer and smoking lol). Just go out on a warm summer night, toss a bluegill out there and relax!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. When I go out, I expect to catch something only because I've been fishing my whole life. There have been some tough days of fishing, but I'm okay with it. Like you said it is a form of relaxation, any day of fishing beats a day of working even if you don't catch anything.
