Last I heard, Flint River was a fine food . . . hold on, I'll check the ingredients . . . well, looks like they use grains, so I'd find something else.

I just used up the last of my Taste of the Wild High Prairie, so Satchmo's back on raw food for a couple days now. HUGE difference! He's now pooping about twice a day, compared with 4-6 times a day on kibble, and his stools aren't soft and almost diahrrea consistency anymore - they're hard and compact. And even though Taste of the Wild is grain-free and one of the better foods available, he had bad gas, all of the time.

I would feed a grain-free food to start with, but overall a raw diet really is the best source of nutrition.

Flint River Ranch is a good food - I feed it to most of my dogs.

They do have different varieties. The standard one has wheat in it, but I have fed both their Lamb and Millet and their Trout and potato to my dog who has food allergies, and she has done fine with both. Neither of those has corn or wheat.

So...you might try one of the other varieties.

Flint River Ranch is an excellent food. Does he get treats? Table food? Does he ONLY eat his dog food? The only way to know it is the FRR is if that is the ONLY thing he eats for several weeks. If this is already the case, I can tell you that my dogs do best on California Natural-it's a limited ingredient food good for dogs with gastro. issues and food allergies. Made by Natura (the company makes Innova and Healthwise, too), this dog has worked out best for my own dogs. Excessive gas can be from eating crappy foods (again-FRR is excellent), eating human foods (esp. fatty meats or anything out of the ordinary for the dog), or it can be from digestive illlness (colitis, for example).

You should perhaps discuss his gas issues with the vet next time you have him in-all dogs pass gas daily, just like people do, but if it's extreme, talking to the vet won't hurt.
