What are some tips on getting over a lost pet...?

Postby SublimeGirl on Sat Oct 24, 2009 4:45 am

On Sunday, my 6 mo. old kitten that I bottle fed since it was 2 wks, got ahold of my laptop cord and electrocuted himself. I revived him, but had to put him down the next day... My fiance and I are devastated and everything in the house reminds us of him. What are some tips to help us get through this rough time. thanks

I am so so sorry. You have to give yourself permission to grieve. If it's too much right now, you can try finding stuff to distract yourself - go on a roadtrip, hang out with friends, etc. Eventually it will hurt less, though of course you'll always miss and cherish him.

How awful. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Maybe you can make a contribution to a local shelter in his name? Or adopt another needy, death row kitten.

My condolences on a horrible, sudden loss.

I am very sorry for ur loss....:( try to keep urself busy. I hate to say this but maybe u should get anonther kitten, but this time proof ur place of any harm.. That means hide all ur wires or just disconnect eveything. That's what we did with our kittens! and close all ur cuboards etc....so that no other other animal can get hurt! Goodluck

I am so sorry that happened. The first tip is do not buy another pet until you know for sure that you can handle it. Most times people buy another pet because they are upset and then they figure out that pet is not the one they wanted. The second tip is to just remember how hard you tried to give your kitten life. You tried your best and that is what counts.

Im sorry to hear that. Ive had my puppie pass away on me from parvo and that was the worst ive ever been threw..The way i dealt with the loss was knowing he was in a better place. Also, the fact that i had a good time with him while it lasted was good enough for me. Everyone has a time to go and i guess it was just time for him to go. Another thing i done was get another doggy :) Although she doesnt replace him it filled up the emptyness i had. I waited about 2 weeks before i got another one. So good luck & i hope you find another kitten that full fills your hearts. God Bless.

You need to give your self time to grieve. Volunteer with a local cat rescue or animal shelter. Save another life in his honor.
Learn everything you can about kitten proofing your home and then help out at cat adoption fairs by teaching people how to make their house safe for a new kitten.
Join an on line pet grieving group, it helps to share with others going through the same thing.
Donate his things to a rescue group so they are helping other needy cats but keep his photos so you can, in time, remember the good times with him.
