Temperature for julii corycats?

Temperature for julii corycats?

Postby samantha on Fri Oct 23, 2009 4:35 pm

I'm planning on having these corycats in my new tropical community tank. Problem is, they prefer a lower temperature than everything else. Would it be okay to have them at 78ºF? What happens if they're in a higher temperature than they prefer?

And 78ºF is on the lower end of all the other tropicals...they all prefer closer to 80ºF (male betta, otos, glowlight tetras).

Temperature for julii corycats?

78 is not a problem for the corys, and if you want the tank a little cooler, 76 is not a problem for the other tropicals. At higher temperatures the metabolism of the fish rises and the water holds less oxygen, so there are good reasons to keep the temps a little less warm

Their habitat is not some perfect 80 degrees and they are pretty tolerent. Think of these numbers as an 'approximation of their needs' rather then as preferred, because that's really all it is.

Your cories should be able to acclimate to 78-80 degrees just fine. :)

Temperature for julii corycats?

78 is good for corydoras julii. They should be able to tolerate 80 F also, but about 75 to 78 is ideal for them.

The main problem with keeping fish at non-optimal temperatures is that their disease resistance will be lower. This is more a problem for some fishes than others. For example: Keep discus too cool = big problem. Keep guppies too warm or too cool = not such a problem.
