Severe stomch pain?Please help!?

Postby princess_of_darkness on Sat Oct 24, 2009 2:51 am

I woke up this morning with stomach pain so bad I could barley move, or even breathe. When I tried to get up I instantly started to get sweaty and nauseous. The pain is is the center of my stomach, (like right behind my belly button) At first, I thought it was bad gas, but now I don't know! I've never had gas all day long, and the pain is MUCH worse than any gas pain I have ever had. It seems to get worse when I stand, or eat. I went to the hospital where they took and ex-ray,drew blood, and took a urine sample, but the doctor wrote "abdominal pain, unknown cause." He suggested I take a laxative, which I did, but I was never constipated in the first place! The pain has stayed constant all day, and goes away for a second, then comes back really bad (a sharp shooting pain) My stomach feels like its contracting (like when I was in labor!!) Please help?!( The nausea went away)

No I'm not pregnant. Does anyone how fast appendicitis can become serious? (would they have been able to tell this morning when they took my ex-rays if it were my appendix)

oh man., i had pain like that last week.
i was bowling and ate cheese fries and my stomach started to feel awkward, so i sat down and it just starting hurting sooo bad., i wanted to cry. I didnt have to go to the bathroom or throw up, it was just killing me., ive never had a baby so i wouldnt know what labor pains feel like but i did compare it to them when i was sitting and waiting for the pain to go away. i took like 4 tums and after like an hour then pain started to ease just a little., long enough for me to get home and go to sleep.
i put a heating pad on my stomach also., which helps.
mabye it was something you ate, like me.
it happens when i eat aot of cheese

That's happened to me before, quite a few times. Minus the nausea. It does hurt really bad and I just stayed in a fetal position tell it went away. Didn't see a doctor for it though and it hasn't happened since so I don't think it was serious

That exact thing happened to me once. Are you sexually active? Look up PID or Pelvic Inflammatory Disease and check to see if you have those same symptoms. It is an overwhelming contracting and sharp pain in that same area. Yes you would be able to see it on both an x-ray or a CAT scan. An appendicitis is VERY serious! An abdominal x-ray may detect the fecalith (the hardened and calcified, pea-sized piece of stool that blocks the appendiceal opening) that may be the cause of appendicitis. This is especially true in children.

An ultrasound is a painless procedure that uses sound waves to identify organs within the body. Ultrasound can identify an enlarged appendix or an abscess. Nevertheless, during appendicitis, the appendix can be seen in only 50% of patients. Therefore, not seeing the appendix during an ultrasound does not exclude appendicitis. Ultrasound also is helpful in women because it can exclude the presence of conditions involving the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus that can mimic appendicitis.

A barium enema is an x-ray test where liquid barium is inserted into the colon from the anus to fill the colon. This test can, at times, show an impression on the colon in the area of the appendix where the inflammation from the adjacent inflammation impinges on the colon. Barium enema also can exclude other intestinal problems that mimic appendicitis, for example Crohn's disease.

In patients who are not pregnant, a CT Scan of the area of the appendix is useful in diagnosing appendicitis and peri-appendiceal abscesses as well as in excluding other diseases inside the abdomen and pelvis that can mimic appendicitis.

Laparoscopy is a surgical procedure in which a small fiberoptic tube with a camera is inserted into the abdomen through a small puncture made on the abdominal wall. Laparoscopy allows a direct view of the appendix as well as other abdominal and pelvic organs. If appendicitis is found, the inflamed appendix can be removed with the laparascope. The disadvantage of laparoscopy compared to ultrasound and CT is that it requires a general anesthetic.

There is no one test that will diagnose appendicitis with certainty. Therefore, the approach to suspected appendicitis may include a period of observation, tests as previously discussed, or surgery.
