Sensitive smoke alarm.?

Sensitive smoke alarm.?

Postby Melissa on Fri Oct 23, 2009 12:26 am

My smoke alarm goes off when i use the oven, when i use the toaster; but I'm a heavy smoker, and it doesn't go off when i smoke! My oven is clean and my toaster new!

The alarm is right outside (the unventilated) kitchen, but going off when i'm doing oven chips seems a bit to much!!!

Any advise... Totally confused as in years of having smoke alarms never had one go off at all... now this one goes off daily!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks x

buy a new one and see if it works better. The battery ones only cost about $20. If it is hard wired into the house, it is going off because of arcing somewhere in the wiring connections. The arcing causes static that upsets the electronics. Get a cheap transistor radio, set it to AM music, turn on the oven or toaster and see if you get static. That will be from a bad connection and you can locate it by walking around and listening where it is loudest.

Take it down when you're cooking. Since you are awake you'll know if there is a fire.
