Question about New puppies/potty training?

Postby mimichse67 on Sat Oct 24, 2009 6:25 am

I have a 8 week toy poodle from a friend. at first she was very quiet & relaxed.. her first pee was on the floor ( accident) then i got lucky to catch her next few pees & poops on the wee pad. then next day i brought her to the Vet & got her first vaccine & bath. Then when she came home for the 1st time she got crazy !! jumping, pulling, biting stuff and numerous accidents on the carpet in less than 2 hours.

I heard crate training will house break her faster, but my husband dislikes the idea.. but when i just leave her on the floor even i supervised her the whole time she still gets away

and boy she runs so fast ! what's the best thing to do ?

she currently sleeps on her dog bed with her wee pad close to her...

who cares about if he dislikes it, there is no other way,
would you rather have her pee and poop everywhere or discipline her?
cuz trust when she learns its nice feeling not having to pick up poop and clean pee

Question about New puppies/potty training?

potty?cute one :)
just 2month puppy ?right?
its same like growing a kid .
u gotto train her right from the beginning.
from her eating habit till she pees :D
u doesn't need any special trainy for this.
just spend your time with her.
take her to regular walks.
morning and evening.
its normal with a lil puppy jumping biting and everything.she is just playing with you :)
but the thing is you should know to control her at times.
use different tone when she start nibbling or biting things.
use loud music to train her control barking often with door bells and knocks..

Give your husband these options:

You can agree to crate train the puppy to housebreak it, and you will clean up any accidents

OR

You can choose not to crate train, and HE can clean up any accidents.

Let me tell you, there are many more accidents if you choose the 2nd one.

Question about New puppies/potty training?

At 2 months, crate training is going to be best when you are not home. When you are at home, you can opt to keep the puppy on a leash and with you at all times so that you can catch her in the act and correct her.

It is going to be best if you can avoid using pee pee pads as they are encouraging your little angel to do her business inside.

You may also consider bell training. I had my male pom bell trained by the age of 3 months. I purchased ribbon and 2 bells from a craft store and hung them on a hook by the door to the back yard and rang it everytime I took him out. After a day of that, I started to encourage him to ring it and praised him when he did. By the end of day 2, he was ringing to go out.

Best wishes...these smaller dogs seem to be more tricky with potty training. :)

first beat your husband and tell him the dog needs to be trained createing a dog not only potty trains but teaches not to eat shoes, furniture, and various other objects. also you can tell him its for the dogs safety as puppies tend to chew say you want to create he when you are not home to make sure she does not eat any wires and gets hurt. but dont get a squirt bottle and spray your dog when she has accidents because that makes the dog dislike water also train your husband.

Why train a dog to use a pee pad if you are then going to have to train that dog again to go outside?

Crate your dog when you are not home or can not watch her. Your husband doesn't know what he's talking about. Dogs are denning animals by nature, and young especially feel comfertable in their "den".

Take a 6-10 ft leash, put it on your dog, attach it to your waist. Now she can not run away. Do NOT let her out of your sight, and do NOT let her go potty inside. Every time she potties inside, it will just take that much longer to potty train her.
