Question about building muscle?

I have this problem also. I had a back injury and my left leg for a long time was much weaker then my right leg. At one point I could not even use my calf muscle at all. I just concentrate on using both sides when lifting weights or any other type of exercise. You can also try to do things that work one side at a time. So you are making sure to work your left side enough. At my gym they have a chest press machine that is mainly handles on cables attached to weight and I can just pull with one side and then the other side separately. And like the other person said dumbells would work too.
Also if your legs feel uneven you can do things like leg extensions leg curls and just use one leg then the other. I also use the calf press machine and just do one calf and then the other calf. I still feel like my left leg is not as strong but it's gaining strength since last summer and is much more closely matched to my other leg now.
