neons vs. female betta?

neons vs. female betta?

Postby CandyS on Fri Oct 23, 2009 10:20 pm

Ok i've had a male betta until he passed awaay and he lived with mollys, neons, snails, and corys...

well after he passed away i got a female betta...

well i had a good school of neons

(and yes my tank is big enough it was 15 gal) (stilll IS)

well i went to camp for two nights and came back and found 3 bodys, and one neon left swimming 0.0

i had 8 neons!!!

Now idk what happened but what happened to my neons? i think it was my female betta...

though i had an automatic feeder (it can go four weeks without more food!!)

soo cool but yeah so who was the mass murderer in my tank?

i got rid of the mollys in the summer so yeah!!!!!!

neons vs. female betta?

Bettas will eat neons! You're pretty lucky your male didn't gobble one down. Females are much more spunky than males are so that's probably why you are seeing them disappear now, your betta girl is up to the chase.

I'd move her to her own tank. I'm not a fan of bettas in a community tank anyway, I always keep my guys and gals in their own individual tanks. I have 13 at the moment (yes, I am slightly betta-crazy).

neons vs. female betta?

yeah it was the betta, the female betta are known for doing that, bettas are like the bullies i guess u can say, if she gets any feeling of threat she goes crazy, that's why when u have both a femal and a male betta at the same time (not ur case but just saying) after they mate, u have to put them in seperate tanks, then when the female has the baby betta, u have to have another tank for the baby(s) or she'll eat them too lol...

neons vs. female betta?

Yes, probably the betta. I've seen claims that bettas are peaceful except to other bettas, but I have not found that to be true. And some female bettas are as aggressive as the males.

could they have jumped out of the tank?
could your chemicals have gone out of wack?
could your feeder not have worked?
could a cat have gotten to them?

I just re read your question I thought you were gone for 2 weeks not 2 nights, sorry I didn't help. Sure is strange
