Hormone fluctuations cause a disturbance in the frequency of your period.
Some causes of fluctuations are dieting (have you recently lost weight?), age (are you a teen? are you in your late 30's or 40's? Both have normal hormone changes that effect your period schdule), and stress (are you having problems at home, a recent death of a loved one, are you in school taking exams, have you moved recently, ect...?)
You'll probably get your period in the next week or two- so don't panic. If you're really concerned, make an appt. with your family doctor.
