My 11 month old Pomeranian is obessed with socks and shoes. Help!?

Postby pomparents on Sat Oct 24, 2009 7:46 am

From the day we brought him home, he has loved socks and shoes. He has ruined several pairs. I have gotten advice from several places and none seem to stick with him.

First and most obvious...keep them away from his level. I try but hey, I forget sometimes.

Second, purposely leave them out and catch him in the act and exclaim NO!

Third, purposely leave them out and sprinkle cayenne pepper on them. This is not great for the shoes...lol

Fourth, keep him on a leash at all times and give him a snap when he approaches shoes...

None of these ideas click with him. As soon as he gets a chance, he is off with socks and shoes to chew!

Help, any advice is appreciated. :)

PS - Please do not offer suggestions of beating or rehoming.

You can get him a couple chew toys and/or a rawhide bone to chew on. that always prevents my golden retriever from carrying a sock around the house.

DO NOT use a squirt bottle because that will just make him not like water which make bathing him problemmatic try correcting the dog if you see him do it yell at him point and ignore him for about 5 mins it worke with my dog

here's what i did with underwear...my large pom is the only dog i had a problem with chewing up underwear...i took a old pair she had chewed on and put some tabasco sauce on them...never had another problem with her chewing on anything...did the same thing with my electrical cords...try that on your socks...another thing you can do is make a place to where you put your shoes and socks to where she can't get to them...like in your closet or your room and close the door..
