Muscle Relaxer Question?

Muscle Relaxer Question?

Postby xxcutefacexx on Sun May 10, 2009 5:40 pm

I was prescribed muscle relaxers, as well as pain killers and anti-inflammatory meds, for my back.

The doctor said that I've been having muscle spasms due to stress, and also assigned me to 8 weeks of physical therapy.

I stopped taking the pain killers and muscles relaxers (it's been three weeks since I got them) because I fear I've built up a tolerance to them, because they don't do anything any more, and I've been taking them just to get through my day (for physical, as well as emotional pain).

However since I've stopped taking them, my eye/face has been twitching like crazy. Is this a side effect of stopping them?

If so, what do I do?

It's been three days since the twitching first started.

Muscle Relaxer Question?

Postby jewelsfn460 on Sun May 10, 2009 6:12 pm

I seriously doubt it. I've been on muscle relaxers and pain med's for 9 years due to my back problems. Whenever I've stopped taking the muscle relaxers I've never had any side effect at all. Obviously I never stop my pain med's, I'm disabled with severe chronic pain. But if you are still concerned you should speak to your doctor about it.

As to the very long answer given about muscle relaxers, although there was some very good information in there I do want to state that muscle relaxers are indeed given for very long periods of time for patients with spine issues. I belong to a spine/pain forum and most of the people on there have been taking them for years in conjunction with pain med's.

Muscle Relaxer Question?

Postby gillianprowe750 on Sun May 10, 2009 6:38 pm

So you have a bad back, were prescribed muscle relaxants and pain killers, anti-inflammatory drugs along with PT. The correct drugs for the problem, but then for some reason you decided to stop taking them and are worried about a eye/face twitch, so I assume the back pain has now been cured.
I am on so many drugs for RA and then a prolapsed disc, that if I forget to take one of my muscle relaxants, or go a few hours beyond my pain patch change time, my body soon lets me know.
