IUD Q & A - Scheduled to have an IUD inserted this upcoming June 5th. Can somebody help me?

I am a 25yr old mother of 2 (2yrs & 10mths) & I have been experiencing difficulties with my current prescribed birth control Tricyclen Lo, 21days. I have been advised by my Dr. that having an IUD inserted is my best method of birth control for my long-term bf & myself are liking to have more children in 3-5yrs.

I am scheduled to have a copper IUD inserted this upcoming June 5th & I have been wondering if anybody whom has the IUD has had problems with it since insertion? I have heard stories of extreme hair loss, non-stop cramping, extended overly heavy periods & spotting/bleed throughs. I am liking to hear some experiences before I get mine inserted as as of right now I am not sure if it is for me. Please help!

I just received a follow-up call from my Dr. in regards to the type of IUD in which will be inserted & it is not a copper wired IUD yet known as 'Mirena'.

Mirena is great for some and trouble for others. Overall, its usually fine - its always easier to post about trouble then success. Most women who have mirena inserted loose their period after a few months - some loose it right away. Once your period is gone, you shouldn't really feel any cramping.

If you do have cramping or continual bleeding for more then a month or so, it can mean mirena isn't right for you.
