Is There Any Kind Of Casserole You Can Make With Baked Beans?

My mom bought, and opened, a big can of baked beans. It's more than we can eat. They're also overly sweet. Can I make something out of them? How do you think it would taste mixed with mac and cheese with ham and bell peppers?

4) Once soft, add plum tomatoes (squash with fork in tin as pouring them in) and then add baked beans (remove excess juice before adding to the mix)
5) Mix together on a medium heat and add all herbs, spices and wine.
6) Chop cooked sausages into 3 pieces per sausage on a diagional and add to sauce.
7) Place pot in oven, and cook for 40 mins.
8) Remove from oven. Season to taste.
9) Serve between two, with basmati rice or a large jacket potat

Is There Any Kind Of Casserole You Can Make With Baked Beans?

Postby AnswersbyAndie174 on Sat Oct 24, 2009 3:29 am

Hi Autumn!

Call me over-simplistic, but I would buy a couple of cans of other types of beans to mix with them (maybe a can of white navy beans and a can of black beans)...be sure to drain and rinse these two cans of beans) they should bring down the overly sweet taste you found in the baked beans.

Then get a big spicy sausage (spicy if you like spicy, if not just regular german or kielbasa) and slice it in about 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch slices, then stir fry them on med to med low for a few minutes till a little bit brown, in approx one to two tablespoon of canola oil.

THen add to the beans, and bake in the oven for about l/2 hour at 375 degrees till hot and bubbly. PS If you wanted to add some veggies to this dish, you could stir fly some onions and green pepper and add to the beans, also!

Serve with a salad and some cornbread, or bisquits, and you've got a great, hot, healthy meal, and probably some leftovers for lunches!

Enjoy!
