Is making 42k + benefits a year a good paying job for a 25-year-old?

I'm a graduate in journalism. I used to work at a tv station as a researcher and work part-time at google at the same time. I used to make up to 60k ( no benefits) a year, but I was so unhappy at the tv station that I decided to focus on my google job. I recently got a full-time job but at 42k a year + great benefits. I was told I could maybe get a raise every year. I don't have any school debts and I live in a very affordable city. I'm happy but I kinda miss making more money because I used to go on lavish trips every year with the extra cash I made.

Money is relative! the more you make, typically the more you spend! obviously!

but 42k a year isn't bad. it's like middle of the road. I make about 50k with bennies, and I'm happy with that for now, but I won't settle for that forever.

what I try to do is every time I change jobs, I make more money. never looking back to what I made before. I remember when I was making 12 dollars an hour thinking, "wow that's a lot of money", lol. but it's really not. It's funny, now that I've been making around 25 an hour for a while, it doesn't even seem like that much money... probably because it's not.

but money doesn't matter as much as happiness. If asked the question:

1. would you rather have ultimate happiness and make average wages, or would you rather make twice as much but be depressed?

I think most people would say they'd take the happiness over the money. but what about you?

42k is good for a 40 yr old, never mind a 25 yr old - you better start saving for retirement and a home and stop wasting money on "lavish trips"
