Is battery water safe to be used as distilled water?

Is battery water safe to be used as distilled water?

Postby KarishnuP on Fri Oct 23, 2009 4:05 pm

I have a set in which there are some fish eggs. The manual says that i have to put the eggs in distilled water so i have some Q's.

1:Will tap water do instead of the distilled water?

2:If not tap water could i use water from the water filter?

3:Can battery water be used in this case?

Tap water will not replace distilled. I don't know what eggs or what you are doing with them so I wouldn't know if you can use tap water.

filtered water will generally work, but it's still tap water if you mean filtered tap water.

battery water is just distilled water i would imagine

No the battery water is not ok. Use the filtered tap water, it should be fine. You'll have to get an air stone going in there anyway so that should dissipate the chlorine gas. You didn't say what kind of fish eggs. as some fish are a lot more hardy than others. Good luck to You and Peace

I am guessing a bit that you are doing something with fish eggs. If so, the purpose of distilled water is to have no chemicals added that you typically find in municipality water systems. The chlorine is especially harmful.

I work with Walleyes for Tomorrow with portable hatcheries. I know if you put minnows in some city tap waters, they die.

Battery water may also contain some chemicals which would then also have chance at being harmful.

I live in the country so we have well water, which has not caused a problem with minnows and fish. Keep in mind that we still use distilled water for batteries because of the minerals normally found in this water.

Unless yo have a reverse osmosis water system on your home, I would really recommend against battery water for anything other then batteries.

Good Luck
