The sole purpose of a wet chamois is to prevent the jockey's saddle from slipping !

A lot of trainers use a chamois (SHAMMY) cloth on the horse's back beneath the saddle which functions as an anti-skid device to anchor the saddle.
Also, a chamois cloth can be used for drying off leather.
