how old do you have to be to open a checking account?

Postby Judy792814 on Sat Oct 24, 2009 3:45 pm

My 9 year old has one.
I took her to the bank, and got a custodial checking account.
She got her own debit/atm card that she can go shopping with.
It even has her own name on it.

Ask your mom to do this for you - but some banks require $100 opening deposit.
Most banks now require you to be 18.
Some banks used to allow student checking at 17 - but that's fading out.
Give them a call and find out if you are 17.

18 unless you go there with your parents.

Or you just need to be 14 to get a clever prepaid Visa that behaves in the same way as a checking account, including using paypal.
The difference is that there are some fees.

But they can reduced to almost nothing if you know what to do.

See http://www.esuperfind.com/prepaidvisa.php?id=hra0tt16koo9 when on the signing page you can read the agreement to know more, it's free to do and it's all financial knowledge that can only help.
