iF iTS SWOLLEN AND iT BURNS AND RED. iTS iNFECTED. PUT ALCOHOL ON BUT DONT BREATHE IN WHEN YOU PUT IT ON.

If it is red, warm, swollen and/or their is pus coming out. If you just got it done though I would wait before diagnosing yourself. You can however go ahead and put an antibiotic ointment on the area.

Oh people...you should NEVER put alcohol OR antibiotic ointment on a piercing.

Pain is normal. The main sign of infection to look out for is yellow/green puss. If there is puss and it's white, you're usually in the clear. But yellow/green colored puss is a sure sign of infection. Just clean it properly (sea salt soaks twice a day) and you should be fine. If it gets infected, don't clean it more than normal (overcleaning a piercing can harm it).
