How do you frost homemade cream cheese frosting on a cake?

A light and fluffy frosting that goes well with carrot cake, strawberry cake, pumpkin cake and varieties of cookies.
Main Ingredients:
Butter: 1/4 cup (room temperature)
Cream cheese: 8 ounce (about 227 gram, room temperature)
Confectioner's sugar: 2 cups, sifted
Vanilla: 1 tsp
Finely grated zest of one lemon (optional)
Directions:
1. In a medium bowl, beat butter and cream cheese on low speed until smooth (alternatively, you can use a fork or spatula).
2. Gradually add confectioners' sugar and continue beating until smooth.
3. Beat in vanilla and lemon zest (if using).
