How can I end my binge eating disorder without seeing a therapist?

How can I end my binge eating disorder without seeing a therapist?

I really don't want to see anyone. I just want to do this on my own.

This all started when I went on a crash diet. It kept going downhill from there and I became obsessive and lost 15 lbs. After, I started binging and sometimes purging and sometimes not eating at all. Now, it's just all binging. I feel like I just don't care anymore. I gained back the 15 lbs that I lost plus 5 more. If I gain anymore, I will be classified as "overweight". I can't let that happen. I feel disgusting and worthless. It has taken over my life. I want to be normal but I can't do it. When I'm not mindlessly binging, I'm trying to strictly diet. I'm always thinking about what I'm going to eat, how many calories it is, how much I should exercise, etc. I just can't take it anymore. How can I end this?

How can I end my binge eating disorder without seeing a therapist?

Postby Lauren167 on Sun May 10, 2009 6:09 pm

This is what I do every day, I've been doing this for nearly two weeks and I'm already starting to see results:

Every morning I do 50 sit ups.
I then drink fresh lemon juice squeezed into boiling water.
I then have something like all bran and low fat yogurt.
I then wait an hour, do stretching for half an hour and do 30 minutes cardiovascular, I do toning exercises, and stretch again for half an hour.

I continually drink glasses of water, every hour, on the hour.

For dinner, I'll have something like a salad, and that's it.
And I'll drink Green Tea.
Then If I get hungry towards tea time, I'll snack on celery and carrots.

For my tea, I'll grill some fish/meat, and do vegetables and a salad again.

Still drinking water.

Before I go to bed, I'll have a low calorie hot chocolate.

I'm on a mission to lose weight, I've been doing this for about two weeks, but this is how I used to eat.

I only stopped because I stopped dancing, became lazy and too concerned about going out drinking.

Now I don't drink alcohol, given up smoking, and I'm getting myself back on track to have a perfect body again :)

Drinking a lot of water helps, because sometimes we mistake hunger for thirst :)

I also have a lot of tips for losing weight if you would like to know some, message me :)

How can I end my binge eating disorder without seeing a therapist?

A while ago, someone asked a similar question about binge eating disorder. My advice to you is the same:
Although I don't have that eating disorder, I have experienced other eating disorders, and because of that, i have learned a lot about nutrition and what helps people to lose and gain weight, so maybe i could help. the best thing would be to go to a nutritionist (preferably one who specializes in eating disorders), but here are some tips that may also help you:
-plan out your meals: if you have a meal planned out and you have an idea of when you're next going to eat and how much, you'll be less likely to binge. a meal plan will also help you to realize when you are most likely to binge and on what foods, and it will also help you to learn about the nutrition in foods
-think about when, where and why you are most likely to binge. BED is an eating disorder, and it is almost always caused by underlying problems, and when these problems surface, you may be more likely to binge. if you can recognize these problems, you can prevent them and take steps to deal with them in more healthy ways
-throw out binge foods. stock up on healthy, low-calorie foods like fruits, vegetables, light breads and yogurts and low-fat meat products and make an effort to find some low-calorie treats for when you're craving something sweet.
-avoid high-calorie beverages and try to drink lots of water, because it will keep you full and satisfied. if you drink water between bites, you'll fill up quicker and will be more likely to stick to reasonable portion sizes
-when you feel like binging, distract yourself until the urge goes away. you could read, talk on the phone, listen to music, go online, take a walk, watch a movie or take a bath. just do something to distract yourself.
-exercise. it builds muscle, increases your basal metabolic rate, and lets you feel accomplished and fit.
-make a list of reasons why you shouldn't binge, and why you want to recover
-set goals for yourself. for example, you could aim to binge half as frequently as you usually do, aim to exercise more, aim to eat healthier foods, aim to learn more about calories, etc.
-before you binge, try to avoid it or lessen the amount that you binge by first eating a salad or drinking some water
-get support. find out if there are any eating disorder support groups in your area, or look for psychologists and nutritionists who can help you. talking to friends and family about your problem could also help to make you more aware of its impact on you.

Good luck
