How are wolf hybrids as pets?

Personally I love wolf hybrids. I think there the coolest! anyway it all matters on the owner if you get it while its a puppy you will need to enforce laws and be the dominate one. like any animal they are loyal and aim to make you part of there pack, BUT you need to make sure YOU are the alpha or pack leader. here is a good website. Cesar is the best dog expert and deals with ALL breeds of dogs including wolf hybrids to tiny mix breeds and everything in between.

How are wolf hybrids as pets?

By hybrid I'm assuming you mean wolf X dog. Wolves are vicious animals driven to kill, breeding one with a dog isn't going to take that away. Sure it may cuddle as a pup, but being that its a wild animal it can turn on you at any moment and rip your throat out without a care in the world. If you want a dog that looks like a wolf get a Husky or something similar.

they are loyal and it also depends on the percent of wolf, many people only think they are crossed with husky but this is not true, we have one that is GSD/husky/wolf and she is super loyal and sleeps in bed. Also they are for advanced owners only, they need an strong Alpha figure

How are wolf hybrids as pets?

Postby Sinead161 on Fri Oct 23, 2009 12:03 am

there was a man that lives near me and he had one of those and he was so lovely and gentle even with babies and all. but then one day at home the man got a treat and got it to do tricks and he asked him to do something and after he done it he asked him to do another trick but the dog got annoyed and wanted the treat and snapped it off him and while he was eating the treat the man started shouting at him for snapping it and the dog attacked him and left him in hospital for 2 weeks and the dog had to be put down.

it was his daughters dog and because it had to be put down she got a pony to replace it!! unfair!! lol

How are wolf hybrids as pets?

Postby Alysha936 on Fri Oct 23, 2009 12:18 am

i actually have a wold hybrid her name is Ava, she is 6 months old and gets along great with my Maltipoo Krayton! i Love her very much. i got them both at the same time and trained both of them at the same time to be house broken, lets just say Ava was easier than Krayton. right now she is laying on the couch 5 feet from me and she takes almost the whole couch. my maltipoo is in my lap. im not gonna lie, ava would rather lay on the couch or floor than be all cuddly but thats her personality. she gets played with every morning at 6 and every night after i get off work.

here is a picture from 2 weeks ago-

How are wolf hybrids as pets?

Postby Em7Skye on Fri Oct 23, 2009 12:53 am

My first question is why do you want one? Wolves are wild animals, NOT domesticated pets. Do research for a year, maybe two, and then decide. The problems that come with wolf hybrids far outweigh any possible positive traits. Many are skittish, untrustworthy around children and other pets, hard to bond with, fear aggressive or dominant aggressive. These characteristics are a guarentee if you have none, a small or medium amount of experience training dogs and understanding behavior and how to right wrongs. Wolf-hybrids are ONLY suitable for experienced dog owners (as in not just had dogs in your childhood, but have training as a behaviorist, have done significant research in the area of behavior and history, and/or have worked with many, many dogs). If you do not fit this description, expect your wolfdog to be aggressive, possessive, dominant, fearful, destructive or any combination of these.
If you are looking for a loyal, cuddly dog why not a pitbull terrier, staffordshire terrier, papillon (don't judge on looks, they are tough and very affectionate and trainable), German Shepherd, Brittany, and I'm sure you can find many more that fit your sparse criteria. NOTE: Dogs live a long time and doing research before getting a breed is extremely important for your happiness and above all your dog's happiness and health. Dogs are not something to show off--that may come with extensive training, time and patience--they are not an accessory but a living thing that takes nearly as much time as a child and just as much understanding and love. So choose wisely, PLEASE.
