heart questions....really long questions?

heart questions....really long questions?

Postby amandak on Sat May 09, 2009 7:10 pm

i am an 18 year old girl who does not smoke, does not drink and i do not do any drugs, i am very overweight, i currently weigh 312 pounds, please don't judge, i am trying to lose weight, but my question is, is it safe for me to exercise? would i have a heart attack say if i exercised 30 minutes a day? and would it be safe for me to crash diet for a couple weeks? i want to get down to 130 pounds, i'm 5'0, but i don't like just having to lose 1 pound a week, i get discouraged, so would it be ok if i just ate a banana and an apple everyday for a couple weeks? i just want to lose 20 pounds very fast so that i have motivation to lose the rest, i want a result very fast so it inspires me, i'm just afraid to exercise cuz i'm worried about having a heart attack, i want to lose the weight because diabetes, heart problems and high blood pressure run on my dad's side of the family and my dad's grandfather died from a heart attack in 1965, he died at about 70 years old, my dad's father died of a heart attack in 2003, and 2 of my dad's brothers have heart problems and my mother's brother died of a heart attack at 54 years old, i really want to prevent myself from suffering the same fate as they did, and what are my chances of having a heart attack? and because of my family history do i have a higher chance of having a heart attack when i'm older? and my dad's mother died from a heart attack but she also had breast cancer when she died and she was on double drip morpheine, would that have caused her heart attack? because as far as i know she never had heart problems, i know she had diabetes as does my dad, i heard morpheine is hard on the heart?

also i am very healthy as of now, i went to the doctor 2 days ago and they said my lungs sound clear, my heart sounded strong and they said my blood pressure is perfect, i also get bloodwork every few months to test for diabetes and thyroid problems, everything has come back negative.

the only thing that is wrong is i am anemic.

i am currently taking iron supplements for the anemia.

and 150mgs of zoloft once a day.

birth control pills.

a multivitamin.

and right now i am taking penacillin for a bad throat infection.

anyway, what are my chances of having a heart attack at 18?

i'll be 19 in november.

i get chest pains a lot but when i go to the er they give me ekgs and chest exrays and they always tell me it's just chest wall pain.

i just am always worried about having a heart attack, i'm afraid to sleep at night, i never stop worrying about my heart.

please help.

no rude answers.

thank you for answering.

i apologize for this being so long. i just wanted to explain everything.

It's great that you follow up with your doc and that you have been checked out thoroughly. Did you present this same question to your doctor? If you are looking for odds no one can predict anything, But they are probably REALLY low if non existent. The heart is an amazingly strong organ. It can withstand massive punishment. Heart attacks come about from plaque build up over years and years. Yes some have a genetic predisposition to artery issues early in life. But that means in the 40's and 50's etc ...

I would say NO to ANY crash diet that is not balanced. Simply put when you crash diet your body says "hey I am not getting enough food" so ........ I am gonna store fat and NOT lose weight.

You need a dietitian and someone to coach you them basic exercise working your way up. Simple walking at a moderate pace 30 minutes a day is as good as running.

I wish you the best!

ADDITION: Didn't see the Zoloft ..... could be a part of it too.

Hi there .That 's very good ,you are aware about your weight . It's naccessay to lose your weight. However please be careful about your health. Do not hurt yourself . You need to have enough exersice and appropraite diet. I had a firiend that she got very serious health problem because of a very bad diet for losing weight, and only for being in a good shap. It was life threathing for her . Alghough doctores saved her life but she had several surgery and cholestomy and very poor health for a long time, Even though she recovered but it not the same healthy person that she used to be.
.But Sure you need to take care of your body and your health and your social life.I like to find the good web site for you but till that time you can take a look at this web site.

The best luck

Amanda, you have youth and good labwork in your favor. You said that you are afraid to sleep? One possibility is that you have sleep apnea.Sleep apnea could be quite possible with your height and weight.Amanda, why don`t you get a notebook and record your successes and goals.Start right off with the only food that is consumed will be healthy choices.Start out with 10 minute walks of pleasure.Praise yourself and love yourself in your notebook.Start building self-value.Forget any timeline.Bless you,Amanda
