food myths vs. reality?

1. Extra protein by itself will do nothing but make you fat.m Consuming extra protein while doing a weight training program can help with muscle repair and recuperation to make you stronger.

2. Foods themselves don't really burn fat although eating fibrous foods will move fat through your system faster and thereby seem to burn fat. There are also foods that are called negative calorie foods; they use more calories to consume than are in them. But, the only way foods are going to burn fat is to take in less calories than you burn.

3. Processed foods can be just as nutritious as fresh. The danger in processed foods lies in the the fortification process whereby they add chemical preservatives and nutrients to foods in the form of synthetic vitamins.

4. Carbohydrates don't cause weight gain in and of themselves. Your body needs carbohydrates to function properly. The weight gain comes from consuming too many. There are however studies linking the consumption of sugar to a raised incidence of diabetes. The best rule to follow is, "everything in moderation".
