first time vet visit?

first time vet visit?

Postby Tina on Fri Oct 23, 2009 5:45 am

I have a Shitzo-chiwawa mix and he is 11 months old. I am moving to a new place that requires shot updates and such. About how much does it cost to get his first time shots and how often do I have to do them? What shots does he need? And how do I go about getting papers on my dog and what papers do I need?

You haven't had the first set of jabs?!

Go to your vet as soon as and get them done! Prices vary from vet to vet but you need to have the parvo, distemper, kennel cough and rabies jab. The jabs also cover more illnesses which could KILL your dog.

As for papers - if your dogs parents were not registered you will not get papers for your dog.

They should go once a year and the vet will tell you what you need. You can call ahead and get a price. Rabies is the main shot that you need and also distemper. Some of the shots (like the '7-in-1") you can get at a farmers supply store but there is no record of you giving them to your dog.

I think the dog needs to be a pure bred dog unless the mix is recognized by the AKC, which you can check on the internet. But if the dog did have papers than you would have received them at time of purchase.
