Do you really think the Swine Flu should really be considered a national emergency?

I just opened up Comcast and read that President Obama had declared that the Swine Flu is now a national emergency. I didn't really think it was that big of a deal. What do you think?

No, because it can be treated. But it can still kill.

No, Yes it was declared a national emergency. I am not worried about the so called "pandemic". President Obama said that more than 1,000 people have died from swine but think about it. 1,000 people out of 63,000,000 people, that's is a very very small percentage. You can do the math, I tried but.. I'm a terrible mathematician XD

It's total hype. The swine flu is a small blip on the map for infectious diseases. The truth is, the media and drug company lobbyists have scared our gov. into believing there is some kind of emergency. There is not. I've know more than a few people with confirmed swine flu and their symptoms were much less severe than the "regular" flu. Truth is, our gov. is paying drug companies millions for some unneeded, untested vaccine.

Hell no he is just helping out his strongest monetary backers the pharmaceutical companies and his rich pals at the WHO who would look mighty embarrassed if the swine flu doesn't kill enough people to cause a pandemic and sell enough drugs so all politicians can get richer than they already are . The pandemic was petering out but now watch all the reports of increased infections .

I agree with you. People are overreacting. The regular flu kills about 36000 people each year, and I never hear a panic about it. That said, swine flu is a different strain of flu than we've seen before, and when something new appears as a possible threat to health, sometimes people do get scared and overreact. I think it is important for people to be aware of swine flu, but people shouldn't panic about it.

I wanna say both yes and no. The article about it said it has killed 1000, but actually it's quite an understatement. After a while, states just stopped keeping track of swine flu related deaths. It could possibly 5000 or more death cased by this horrible thing. The reason people may be "overreacting'' is because it's something new and people just aren't sure if this could get a whole lot worse. Some people would say this isn't an emergency because the regular flu has killed a lot more, and every year. But as i stated before, we're not sure of what can happen.
