you measure carpet by the square foot... When you order it just give the carpet place your room size (example: 12 feet long by 15 feet wide) is the dimentions of your room).. They'll do the rest for you..

Carpet is measured in square yards mostly. It's an easy math formula.

Let's say you have a 12' x 12' room. The formula is to find how many square yards you have.

12 x 12 = 144 square feet. Divide by 9 (there are 9 square feet in a square yard) = 16 square yards

Captn bob is correct, but there is more to it. Most carpet is 12 feet wide, so if you order just the number of yards you need, you'll end up with not enough unless your room happens to be just 12' wide. if there is a pattern to match, that too may require extra carpet. Better to do what spike says and just give them the room size. let the experts figure out how much you actually need.

carpet is usually sold by the square yard. there are 9 square feet in 1 square yard. if you measure a room and the measurements are 9 feet by 12 feet, you multiply 9 x 12 and get 108 square feet.. then divide the 108 by 9 because there are 9 square feet in a square yard. you get 12 square yards.
