could she possibly get diabetes?

well, depends if type 2 diabetes runs in the family. If it's type 1 its just chance if she happens to get it, as there is currently no known cause for type 1 diabetes, apart from they know why it happens. If type 2 does run in the family, then maybe just by keeping fit and healthy you can help prevent this, but it doesnt always work.

Anyways, i dont think there is too big a risk of her getting diabetes. Hope it helps

Your sister shows no signs of diabetes at this time. Her lifestyle seems to indicate that she is NORMAL.

You DO NOT get diabetes from eating sugar, or any other foods.

A normal person can have candy and ice cream, just as long as they don;t eat too much. Two scoops of ice cream two times a week is fine for the normal person.

You sister does not have the "body type" to get Type 2 Diabetes. Type 2 Diabetes is caused by being overweight. You sister is "REALLY skinny", gets exercise (to stay that way), and does not seem to eat too many sweets. She COULD NOT be a Type 2 Diabetic

There is a possibility that she could be a Type 1 Diabetic, but you give no indication that she has any other health problems, and the way you describe she seem to be very active and alert, not seeming to be sick at all.

You granpa probably has Type 2 Diabetes. But since NO ONE else in your family has Type 1 (or Type 2...) there doesn;t seem to be any genetic factor to indicate that your sister might be susceptible.

All in all, your sister seems quite normal.

Later in life, after she gets out of college, gets married, and has children, THEN she should have her doctor check once a year to make sure that she does not get Type 2 Diabetes.

The risk factor of diabetes are
Family history
Obesity
Inactive lifestyle
Unhealthy Eating habits
Age above 40

She just just have the first one. so it is not likely that she will get diabetes.
Still she should check for the symptoms of diabetes
