Can you use spot stick as an antiseptic?

Can you use spot stick as an antiseptic?

Postby parakaywhore on Fri Oct 23, 2009 12:27 pm

my friend wants me to repeirce her ears for her as i have done mine and my littles sisters but she can't stand any slight pain or she freaks out, we were trying to find something in my house that we could use as an antiseptic and we discovered on wikipedia that tea tree oil can be used as one. i have a spot stick made of tea tree oil and peppermint oil (which dentists use) so do you think this would be okay? Thanks

NO! NO! Don't use that! An antiseptic is not a pain reliever! If used neat, any natural oil such as Tea Tree Oil can burn the skin. When you pierce an ear, you are creating an open wound. Make sure everything is sterilised before use and if your friend does not want to feel pain then I suggest taking a pain killer 20-30 mins prior to having it done. Make sure you let the wound breathe and bathe it in warm salty water (use water you have boiled in the kettle) gently with a cotton bud. Some people recommend placing an ice cube on the ear to reduce pain prior to being pierced. But I would recommend that your friend is pierced by a qualified professional as it is too easy to get an infection. :-)
