Can I rent before Securing Job?

Can I rent before Securing Job?

Postby genius_parks on Sat Oct 24, 2009 8:04 pm

Okay, after going back and forth and living in DC and being miserable, I've decided to go home to South FL. I'm in the process of looking for an apartment, but am worried I'm going to have difficulty finding a place due to the "verifiable income requirements".

I have 12 years from the military and spent a long time saving funds to the point I was able to get out and finish my graduate degree full time. Started a job in DC recently, but the pressure made me get sick at work, along with the 2.5 hour commute, the weather, and other things.

Right now, I have plenty of savings to cover rent for at least 2 years and the only other debt I have is my car payment. I also do weekend reserve duty (about the same amount of the car payment) and also receiving a VA stipend for going to school full time for my second Master's degree, all in all about $2200 a month. I eventually plan to find a job down here, but I'm worried the amount doesn't meet the 2 or 3 times the rent requirement a lot of compelxes own.

My question is can I pay a portion of the lease off (3, 6, 12 months) in advance and do the leasing companies accept that?

The beauty of any lease is everything is negotiable. Paying upfront rent or higher than normal security depsoits are sure fire way to overcome any rental stipulations that can't be ready met by a prospective tenant. I doubt you will have too much trouble. Good Luck!
